Zhang Chuting
|
Zhang Chuting, male,
professor of mathematics and education, and
tutor of doctoral candidates, is president of
Hunan International Economics University.
Zhang Chuting was appointed as president of Huan
Normal University in 1982 and party Committee
secretary in 1983. Since 1986 he was president
and party committee secretary of Hunan Normal
University. During the 18 years, President Zhang
has brought Hunan Normal University from an
ordinary provincial teachers’ college to the
list of “211 Key” national universities. And
during this period, he was a member of Hunan
Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of
China for ten years and vice-chairman of Hunan
Science and Technology Association for ten
years.
Now Zhang Chuting has the following academic
titles: deputy director of Steering Committee of
National College Students’ Quality Education,
managing director of National Higher Education
Management Association, deputy director of the
National College Teaching Research Society,
commissioner of Academic Committee of China
Higher Education Association, deputy director of
Hunan Education Quality Appraisal Committee.
Despite heavy work in administration and
teaching, President Zhang exerts great efforts
at academic research, especially research on
higher education. He has published about 80
works, of which 30 were his own achievements and
9 were produced in cooperation. He was chief
editor of 44 books and published 411 papers.
During the 5 years of administration in Hunan
International Economics University, he continued
his research work on higher education, published
several important works, including “School
Management”, “Philosophy on Higher Education”,
“Curriculum and Teaching Philosophy”, the last
of which filled the blank of China’s curriculum
philosophy and won “National Book Award”. His
“Philosophy on Higher Education” is the first
monograph on philosophy on higher education in
our country. In 2007, his “Collected Education
Works of Zhang Chuting”(10 volumes) was
published by Hunan Education Press.
Zhang Chuting has won several awards: first
prize for national-level teaching achievements
in 2001, second prize in 1997, and Xu Teli
prize---the highest prize on education in Hunan.
Besides, he was chosen as one of the ten
outstanding social scientists of Hunan.
Zhang’s education thought exerts far-reaching
influence on Chinese higher education. Professor
Yu Yueqing, former director of Higher Education
Research Institute of Beijing University, ranked
Zhang among contemporary China’s most excellent
university presidents along with three others,
Kuang Yaming, Zhu Jiusi, Qu Qinyue. Professor
Sui Yifan remarked on China’s contempory
educators, “Zhu Jiusi is a politician, Zhang
Chuting is a scholar, Qu Qinyue is a scientist
and all of them are the most outstanding
principal educators with great achievements on
school management”. “President Zhang Chuting,
having written so many great works on education
theories, has become an educator of far-reaching
influence” (“University Presidents’ Education
