About HNIEU |
Hunan International
Economics University, founded in May 1997, is a
privately-run regular university which is funded
by Hunan Falcon Industrial Limited Company. It
originated from Xiangnan Institute of Arts and
Science in Chenzhou City, Hunan province. In
1998, the university moved to the State
high-tech industry development zone in Changsha,
and changed its name to “Hunan International
Economics University”. In 2000, Hunan provincial
People's Government authorized it to be a
private technical college, and was brought into
the state plan for enrollment. In 2005, it was
upgraded to a four-year university with the
approval of Ministry of Education and Hunan
Provincial People’s Government. It was rated in
succession among the top ten famous private
universities with ten thousand students, top
twenty comprehensive private universities in
China, winning the titles of “the National May
Fourth Red Flag League Committee”, “Advanced
Unit of Self-discipline Honest Development of
Private Non-enterprise Units in China”, “Private
educational innovation and development
contribution award of China”, “Top Twenty
Private Universities’ Quality Education in
China”, “Top Ten Honest Private Universities in
Hunan”, “Top Ten Hunan Private honest Unit”,
“Top Ten Hunan Private Universities” and so on.
It ranked the second best private university in
China in 2006 and became one of the youngest and
most promising private universities.
The university
covers a land area of 1700 mu with a
construction area of 530000 square meters. Its
total property is more than 1 billion Yuan.
There are two campuses. The main campus is
situated in the state high-tech industry zone in
Changsha, with a land area of 1700 mu, and a
construction area of 460000 square meters. The
Qinshuihu campus is located in Taizimiao town,
Hanshou County, Changde City, with an area of
6000 mu, of which there is 3000 mu of land area
and 3000 mu of water area.
Now there are 25000 various levels of students
in our university, 1560 teaching and staff
workers, of whom 1024 are teachers. Among the
946 full-time teachers, 64 are professors, 126
are associate professors, 213 teachers are with
doctor's degree or
master’s degree, 10 are foreign teachers, 14
experts win the special allowance of the State
Council, mainly made up of full professors and
associate professors, forming a stable teaching
team.
There are 86 laboratories of various kinds,
among which computer, electronics, economics
laboratories have reached advanced level in our
country. The library of the university has a
collection of 1.7 million volumes, including
1.08 million paper volumes and 0.62 million
electronic volumes.1746 periodicals of various
kinds and teaching instrument equipments are
worth 68.5 million yuan in all.
There are 13 departments, including Commercial
Department, Foreign languages and Literature
Department, Management Department, Mechanical
Engineering Department, etc, offering English,
Chinese, Japanese, Music, art, cartoon, sports,
marketing, science of law, science of
accounting, computer science, international
economics and trade, mathematics and applied
mathematics, industrial and commercial
management, material-forming and controlling
project, electronic information project,
communication project, industrial design and
tourism management, etc., totaling 19 4-year
majors and 34 3-year majors. These
majors basically form the
chief characteristic of international economics
and management. The university stresses the
construction on computer, electronics, and
communication and other science majors, and
makes balanced development of majors related to
language, law and art.
The University
practices the responsibility system under which
the president takes charge of the
whole work under the
leadership of the Board of directors. Professor
Zhang Chuting, famous educator, doctoral tutor,
and former president of Hunan Normal University,
is president of the university.
“Goodness, Beauty, Self-Reliance and
Self-Strength” is the motto of the university,
which motivates students to persistently pursue
truth, goodness and beauty. The university
adheres to the three principles of running a
school, they are “General education
and professional education develop
simultaneously”, “Scale and quality develop
harmoniously”, “The school is run by honesty and
sincerity”, which help it achieve normal and
stable development. Meanwhile, the university
persists in putting teaching in the central
place and raises 9-character slogan – “Let
students really learn the things” and an
8-character guide principle of work style,
namely, “Equality, Respect, Responsibility,
Efficiency”, and takes building life-long HIEU
as its long-term ideal of running schools.
The university attaches great importance to the
construction plans for key subjects and courses.
International trade is defined as an important
construction subject of Hunan Province, while
the four areas (foreign languages and applied
linguistics, computer software and theory,
signal and information treatment, and art
design) are defined as key subjects of the
university. Golf skill training is defined as a
core course of the province.
Basic computer application and English are
defined as major courses of the university with
a view to improving students’ practical ability
in these aspects. Every major has more than 2
core courses which contain at least one skill
course. Recently, the school has sped up the
pace writing and compiling textbooks and
published 153 self-edited textbooks. Among them,
the Golf textbook filled in domestic blanks.
The university insists on the principle of
“teaching guiding research and research
promoting teaching”. As a result, research work
has reaped good achievements. Science 1999，the
teachers have published about 200 works of
various kinds. Besides, the school has won one
publication award on national level. More than
500 articles have been published，20 of which
were recorded in SCI or EI. Over 80 research
projects have been registered ministerial or
provincial departments. The school has won 60
prizes of teaching and research, of which there
are 1 at national level, 6 at provincial level,
36 of second-grade or third-grade，and
23 of department-grade or bureau-grade.
The university promotes the teaching mode of
“foreign language, specialty skills and
pioneering quality”, setting up the mode of
“wide foundation” and “flexible model” based on
the principle of “strengthening posts”,
“profound knowledge” and “stressing practice”.
The school lays great emphasis on cultivating
the students’ practical ability and creative
power, and has established an occupational
training center, offering more than 40 kinds of
training. It provides good conditions for
students to acquire educational diplomas and get
English certificates, computer certificates,
driving licenses and related occupational
qualifications. In order to create good
circumstances for practice, the school has
invested huge sums of money to set
digital-control model practice base, drive
training base, vehicle fixing training base，five-star
hotel training base，golf course, golf training
ground, air service training base and so on. For
the outstanding ability of practice and
initiative, our graduates are deeply welcomed by
society and the employment rate maintain above
95%. Thus，Hunan province department of education
honor or school as “advanced college of high
employment rate in Hunan ".
Recently，our students have acquired many prizes
at national levels, including 1 prize，7
first-class prizes，9 second-class prizes on
different fields. Besides，they have won several
prizes at provincial levels, including 1
special-class prize，28 first-class prizes, 35
second-class prizes, 47 third-class prizes.
Hunan International
Economics University is growing up and going
forward. Currently，all faculty and students are
united，moving forward, striving for building
“External HIEU, Top-class HIEU”.
